What to feed new Colt AR-15?

Just picked up a new Colt LE6920. For practice what ammo works well? For self defense......? 1 in 7 twist barrel.

I shoot whatever I can get my hands on. usually wolf. got about 4000 rounds through it now with no problems. if the cases chew up my bolt or extractor Ill just get a new bolt or extractor. I keep the barrel clean.

I dont run premium gas through my cars either.

My Bushmaster AR-15 seems to do just fine with this Steel ammo. A little harder to clean but I have put a few hundreds rounds through it with no issues this month.

The ammo TechGuy posted is really nice. I put about 100 rounds through my AR of it with no issues and have around 900 rounds left from AIM of it.

Friends Don't let Friends Run Steel Cased Ammunition in AR-15's...

If you love your AR, treat it right.

another +1 for the PPZ-- That stuff is about as reasonably priced as you will find and is really good ammo.

I've also been running Federal as its been easy to find locally for me lately.

Anything but steal Wolf ammo.

Privi Partizan - either M855 (62gr) or M193 (55gr). I like to use 55's for putting holes in paper.

+1 on the Prvi
I'm going with the 75gr for practice.

A 1:7 twist barrel is optimized for heavier bullets. I'd use 69 grains and up.

Yes, Tom is correct, 1:7 can handle the heavier bullets, but will handle M193 55gr as well. I would practice with the cheapest you can get your hands on. If you will have a stash of higher grain ammo for "self-defense engagements", then just re-zero.

This is some great data here: http://www.ammo-oracle.com/body.htm

"Q. OK, that's complex. Simple question: Can I fire M193 ammo in my 1:7 or 1:9 twist barrel?

Yes.

M193 is essentially a "universal" round; able to be stabilized by barrels with twists between 1:14 and 1:7. Point of impact will change slightly compared to an M855 zero, so rezeroing is recommended."
